Embassy attestation is carried out in non-apostille authentication case. Embassy attests a particular document after the MEA has authenticated that document. This is the closing stage of attestation process and comes under Embassy Attestation. The Embassy attestation is mandatory for those countries which are not included in Hague Convention list. Embassy Attestation consists of a series of steps for verification of documents that in due course result in their legalization by the concerned consulate or embassy of the intended country.

To reach the Embassy Attestation process, the document needs to go through some mandatory primary attestation process and get attested from an array of Governmental Organization in India i.e., from various authorized Indian authorities. In India, different government segments such as SDM, GAD, Notary, State Home Ministry, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), HRD, Embassy & consulate deal with all kind of documents attestation formalities.

The attestation from the authorized Indian authorities depends on the nature of the certificate. From the standpoint of Embassy Legalization, the documents or certificates are divided into three types- Educational Certificates/Documents, Non Educational Certificates/Documents and Commercial Certificates/Documents.     Educational Document Embassy Legalization

1st Process:

I.    First of all the Educational Document will be attested by the respective State Level Attestation Department (HRD/GAD).

II.    Once the Educational Document has been attested from the state level Attestation Department then it has to be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

III.    After the above two attestation processes are completed, then the Document will finally be legalized by the respective Embassy in India.

 2nd Process:

I.    Initially the Educational Document has to be attested by the Home Department, Mumbai (Mantralaya).

II.    Once the Educational Document has been attested from the Home Department, Mumbai (Mantralaya) then it has to be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

III.    After the above two attestation processes are completed, then the Document will finally be legalized by the concerned Embassy in India.

   Non Educational Document Embassy Legalization

1st Process:

I.    To start with the Non-educational Document has to be attested by the State Level Attestation Department.

II.   Once the Non-educational Document is attested from the respective state level Attestation Department then it has to be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

III.   After the above two attestation processes are completed, then the Document would finally be legalized by the respective Embassy in India.

2nd Process:

I.    Firstly the Non-educational Document will be attested by the Home Department, Mumbai (Mantralaya).

II.    Once the Non-educational Document has been attested from the Home Department, Mumbai (Mantralaya) then it has to be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

III.    After the above two attestation processes are completed, then the Non Document would finally be legalized by the concerned Embassy in India.

  Commercial Document Embassy Legalization

 I.    Initially the Commercial Document has to be attested by the respective Chambers of Commerce.
